ANOTHER ASHBOURNE SOLDIER SUPPOSED KILLED
'Although no definite official intimation has been received, it is feared that Private John Hellaby, of the Signal Section, Sherwood Foresters, has been killed in action, as letters which have been addressed to him by his friends have been returned, and bear indications of the words “killed in action” having been written across them and partially erased. Private Hellaby, who was 35 years of age, was the son of the late Mr. W. Hellaby, of Yeldersley Old Hall Farm and, before joining the Army in October, 1914, was in the employ of Mr. T. Edge, Dig-street. He served in Ireland during the Rebellion, and went to France in September last. It is about a month since any news was received from him, and his friends were naturally feeling some anxiety when their letters to him were returned.'
